Dear Nearirath,

Thank you for your email and congratulations to you and your fellow Team Members for being selected to represent the Royal University of Law and Economics in the 2009 Jessup Competition. The ILSA Executive Office is delighted that your school will be joining the Jessup Competition this year.

Last week, we sent a package of “starter materials” to your Team Advisor to assist you with the research, writing, and oral presentation components of the Competition. Included in this package are the ILSA Guide to International Moot Court Competition, the Canadian Guide to Uniform Legal Citation, the Association of Legal Writing Directors Citation Manual, and several videotapes of the Championship Rounds of the Jessup Competition from previous years.

Our office understands the difficulty that many Jessup Teams face with raising the necessary funds associated with participation in the Jessup Competition. For this reason, we waive the registration fee for schools competing for the first time from Schedule III countries, such as Cambodia. To apply for a waiver of the registration fee, please complete the application form at http://www.ilsa.org/jessup/jessup09/waiver.pdf and submit it to our office.

Please note that before waiver of the registration fee will be granted, your Team must be registered for the 2009 Jessup Competition. To register, please go to http://www.ilsa.org/jessup/registration.php, and follow the instructions for Jessup Team Registration. Once you have submitted the 2009 online registration form, an Invoice will appear on your computer screen which you will need to print, complete, and either fax or mail to our office. Rather than entering your payment information on the Invoice, please indicate that you have applied for a waiver of the registration fee.

In addition to the registration fee waiver program, we are also offering hotel scholarships to qualifying Teams to cover the cost of lodging at the International Rounds in Washington, D.C. The 2009 hotel scholarship application form is attached to this email.

Unfortunately, the ILSA Executive Office cannot provide financial assistance for the cost of air travel. However, we encourage Teams to contact their  local U.S. embassy, U.S.A.I.D., and other foreign non-profit agencies to apply for travel grants to attend the International Rounds of the Competition.

As another fund-raising idea, you might try to connect with one of the Cambodian communities in the United States to support your participation in the Jessup Competition. Last weekend, I spoke with a Cambodian student at Florida Coastal University who is actively involved with the Cambodian community in Jacksonville, Florida. Her name is Rohany Karya, and she is willing to speak with members of the Cambodian community in Florida to discuss the possibility of assisting your Team as sponsors or by providing other support. I have copied Rohany to this email so that you may contact her directly to follow up on this opportunity.

Again, congratulations for your success in the intramural competition and earning the right to represent Royal University in the Jessup Competition. We look forward to receiving your registration materials and offer our encouragement of your fundraising endeavors.

All the best,

Ashley Walker
